Spending Real Money: What's Worth It and What to Skip
If you choose to spend, focus on what lasts: permanent upgrades and passes you'll use beat one-time boosts and luck-based packs. Plus budgeting and staying safe.
Last War is built to make you feel you're always one pack away from winning. You aren't. The question to ask about any purchase isn't "is this a good discount?" but "will this still be helping my account a month from now?"
The rule of thumb
The best purchases share three things:
- They're permanent or long-lasting. A second builder helps every day for the life of your account. A stack of resources is gone by tomorrow.
- They speed up everything else. Extra queues and squads multiply the value of all your other resources.
- You'd use them anyway. A pass only pays off if you log in to claim it. A milestone reward only matters if you wanted it.
The worst purchases are the opposite: one-time boosts, things you'll get free later, and anything that relies on luck.
Worth paying for
Permanent upgrades (best value in the game)
| Purchase | What you get | Why it's worth it |
|---|---|---|
| Second builder | A second construction queue, forever | Roughly doubles how fast your base grows, every day you play. Top of every list. (On some servers it unlocks with VIP level instead.) |
| Kimberly starter pack | One of the strongest early heroes, plus extras | A permanent, strong hero from day one. Only offered early, and only once |
| Second Tech Center | A second research queue | Faster research for the rest of the early game. Only before Age of Oil, which gives you a free third one; after that, skip it |
Passes, if you play every day
| Pass | What you get | Worth it when | Skip it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly Pass | A 4th marching squad while active, research and gathering bonuses, VIP privileges, plus daily diamonds, stamina, speed-ups and recruit tickets | You log in most days and you'll build heroes for that 4th squad | You play a few days a week, or you won't invest in a 4th squad |
| Season Battle Pass | Rewards across the whole 8-week season | You'll play the full season. Get it early so you collect every tier | You're about to quit or switch accounts mid-season |
| Weekly Pass | A week of daily rewards | The first week of a season (and maybe the last), when growth matters most | Ordinary weeks in the middle of a season |
Event milestones you actually want
During events like Ammo Bonanza or Glittering Market, a small purchase can push you over a milestone reward that's worth far more than the purchase itself. Decide which milestone you want before you buy, buy just enough to reach it, and stop. Past the milestone, each extra purchase gives much less.
Not worth it
| Purchase | Why it's poor value |
|---|---|
| Diamond packs | You earn diamonds constantly for free, and almost every other pack includes them anyway |
| Hero battle passes | Every hero becomes available for free later. You're paying to get something a little sooner |
| Exclusive Weapon passes | Their rewards show up in the Black Market after the season ends |
| "Weekly deals" and pop-up offers | Mostly resources and items that are gone in a day or two. The big "1,000% value" labels compare against a made-up price, not real value |
| Recruitment (gacha) packs | Chasing a specific hero through random pulls is the easiest way to spend a lot and get little. You're paying for a chance, not a result |
| Resources and speed-ups on their own | One-time boosts you'll burn through quickly, and you earn plenty from passes and events. Save free ones for VS days instead |
Spend smarter
- Set a monthly budget first. Pick an amount you're comfortable never seeing again and treat it as a hard limit. "Just one more pack" is how most overspending happens.
- Buy for a plan, not a timer. Countdowns and "last chance" offers come back again and again. If it wasn't on your list before the pop-up, skip it.
- Ask "permanent or temporary?" before every purchase. Permanent wins almost every time.
- Stack your buys. When you do buy something you already planned on, do it during an event where purchases also count toward event rewards.
- Look at your purchase history once a month. Both app stores keep one. It's an easy reality check.
Stay safe
- Buy in the game or through your phone's app store. Many sites sell "discounted" Gold Bricks or passes. They're not official, and most of the guides recommending them are written by those same shops. If you use one anyway, never give it your account login or a verification code, and know that the game's support may not be able to help if something goes wrong.
- "Free diamonds" generators are scams. No tool adds free currency to your account. They're after your login or your payment details.
- Don't dispute a purchase with your bank. In many games a chargeback reverses the purchase and gets the account restricted. If you were charged by mistake, ask for a refund through the store instead: Apple's Report a Problem page or your Google Play order history.
- Lock down purchases on shared devices. On iPhone, use Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases to require a password. On Android, turn on Require authentication for purchases in Google Play settings (and Family Link for kids' devices).
